The Thames seems to start from lower springs than it used to, perhaps because of increased 'abstraction'. However it is already a tinkling little torrent of fresh water, bumbling over the earthy limestone ('Cornbrash') rocks by the time it crosses under the main A428 Cirencester road, and becomes easily visible about half a mile north east of Kemble, Gloucestershire.
