The bow-waves made by two artificial wakes merge in the swift tidal flow downstream of vertical, cylindrical bridge stanchions. the wakes produce 'interference patterns' as some waves build each other up (reinforce) into larger amplitudes, others find themselves 'out of phase' and cancel out to form smoother patches of water.
Hopefully, although the process is not a smooth one, science and art can happily go forward together 'hand in hand'.
