water n.
a colourless, odourless liquid

Yet water, particularly a water surface, has so many wonderful effects which are often taken for granted, or not even noticed, by those whose very existence depends on it in everyday life...

October 1982 in Marlborough, partly 'on the flat'  Exhibited: 7, 8

On the 15th of July 1982, while awaiting studio visitors in Marlborough, Wiltshire; I was caught out by a thunderstorm at its height which made driving impossible. The rain fell very heavily for a short time, with large drops splashing fully 18 inches (about half a metre) up off of the flooded tarmac, making a spectacular sight! Fortunately, forty days of continuous rain did not follow during that particular year, contrary to the fable.
