Bill Pike water & reflections

water n.
a colourless, odourless liquid

Yet water, particularly a water surface, has so many wonderful effects which are often taken for granted, or not even noticed, by those whose very existence depends on it in everyday life...

At carnival time (usually the first week in September) a traditional visiting fair produces some brightly coloured reflections in the circular pond on Aldbourne Village Green. for HM the Queen's 1977 Silver Jubilee celebrations a fountain was temporarily erected in the pond.

While waiting for the carnival procession, I noticed a rainbow which sometimes appeared in the cascade of falling droplets when intermittent sunshine played on the spray. Painted fairground vehicle reflections in the pond changed colour where viewed through the rainbow's brilliant hues of refracted sunlight. Even the strongest red reflections were modified to orange through the bow's light.
